Southbound Part 3: Makati to Susana Heights (Buendia to Filinvest)

TO SOUTHBOUND PART 3 - MANILA

When the Skyway enters Makati from Manila, we pretty much get back to the original (Bicutan-Buendia) segment of road from the late 90s.  Because the road was originally designed to funnel people in-and-out of Makati to and from the south suburbs, there are no provisions for southbound exits all the way until NAIAX (which was only finished in 2016-2017).

After leaving Makati city limits, things get busier with 4 exits in a row (and a planned 5th).

20 kilometers/12.43 miles north of Susana Heights - 15.77 kilometers/9.8 miles south of Libis Baesa
Buendia Toll Plaza

Still not open yet (as of February 2021), this will be the site of the first barrier toll plaza on Stage 3 going northbound and the last one going south.

Exit 19, Buendia (to Ayala, Salcedo Village, Poblacion, Bonifacio Global City via Kalaayan Flyover, Pasay, Bay City, Magallanes)
19.5 kilometers/12.12 miles north of Susana Heights - 16.27 kilometers/10.11 miles south of Libis Baesa

The only Makati exit, and signed for EDSA at the gore point and at landing.  Having said that, using this to go to EDSA is really a hyper-specialized application (trying to get to say the camera store at the Osmena/EDSA ramp), as it is a full 3 kilometers (1.87 miles) from the Buendia southbound ramp split point to EDSA!

Drivers going to Bay City either should continue west on Buendia or all the way to NAIAX, so NAIAX is signed already this far north.

This is the only way for Skyway drivers to get to the Magallanes district, around 3.5 kilometers/2.17 miles, and likewise the only way for Skyway drivers to access SLEX before they get to Alabang.

17.4 kilometers/10.81 miles north of Susana Heights - 18.37 kilometers/11.42 miles south of Libis Baesa
Amorsolo Street (Arnaiz Avenue) onramp

The current Skyway onramp signage does not list any control cities, as it predates when the Skyway was extended to Alabang and the construction of NAIAX.  This ramp entrance sign is designed to address that, so drivers from Makati CBD know this is a key route to the airport and to points further south than Sucat.

16 kilometers/9.94 miles north of Susana Heights - 19.77 kilometers/12.29 miles south of Libis Baesa
just south of Don Bosco

Extra destinations for NAIAX exit - the Baclaran district and CAVITEX.  Also first mention of Alabang (the final control city for Skyway itself) and Calamba (the further control destination for SLEX, which Skyway seamlessly merges into).

Exit 14, NAIAX (to NAIA, Resorts World, Bay City, Cavite via CAVITEX)
14.3 kilometers/8.89 miles north of Susana Heights - 21.47 kilometers/13.34 miles south of Libis Baesa

Kept Cavite on as a destination since this is the logical route for southbound drivers heading there from Manila/Makati (and would be so even when CALAX fully opens).

First mention of SEMME, with Taguig listed as control city (since Buendia and PAREX east each offer more direct routes to BGC long before this).

Exit 12, SEMME (to BGC, Ortigas via C-5, Antipolo)
11.9 kilometers/7.39 miles north of Susana Heights - 23.87 kilometers/14.84 miles south of Libis Baesa

First overhead mention of Bicutan exit.

Exit 10, Bicutan (to Dona Soledad Avenue, SM City Bicutan, Laguna Lake Highway)
10.4 kilometers/6.46 miles north of Susana Heights - 25.37 kilometers/15.77 miles south of Libis Baesa

May be the future junction of C-6 with Skyway/SLEX, though that is years away. Original southern terminus of Skyway.

Next exit (Sucat) gets overhead mentioned here first.

8 kilometers/4.97 miles north of Susana Heights - 27.77 kilometers/17.26 miles south of Libis Baesa
approximately located near Cervantes/West Service Road junction

First mention of Alabang exit, so sole control city is now Calamba.  Alabang ramps (the original Skyway Stage 2) will depart from the left once Skyway Extension is open, so this is marked as left exit.

An interesting historical note: The Sucat exit was actually originally named in 2010 for the current official street name (Dr. A. Santos Avenue) based on this screenshot and video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sCcXbw2rh6U

This is amazingly similar to a recent situation with Skyway Stage 3, specifically at the southbound Buendia exit between late December 2020 and the first week of January 2021, where it was named for the current street moniker (Gil Puyat) for several days, then replaced with Buendia signage for consistency on both directions of the road.

Exit 6, Sucat (to SM City BF Homes, Paranaque)
6.6 kilometers/4.1 miles north of Susana Heights - 29.17 kilometers/18.13 miles south of Libis Baesa

The exit name isentirely accurate if one considers Sucat to be a reference to Sucat Road (Dr. Arcadio Santos Avenue) as seen in the historical note above, but a slight misnomer if it is seen as a reference to the actual Sucat district east of the Skyway.  Getting to that area that requires a driver to make a U-turn at Loyola Memorial Park and double back eastbound on Sucat Road to Meralco Road, a total of 1.5 kilometers/almost 1 mile of extra driving.

Exit 4, Alabang/Hillsborough (to Filinvest, Festival Supermall, Alabang Town Center)
4.1 kilometers/2.55 miles north of Susana Heights - 31.67 kilometers/19.68 miles south of Libis Baesa

The southern terminus of Skyway until temporary ramps to SLEX were constructed around 2019, congestion here is what has led to the Skyway Extension project towards Susana Heights.

1 kilometer/0.62 miles north of Susana Heights - 34.77 kilometers/21.61 miles south of Libis Baesa
Skyway Extension southbound, above SLEX Filinvest Exit

Next Three Exits sign reflects the next three exits on SLEX, especially MCX/Daang Hari in Susana Heights.

After this, Skyway Extension is slated to merge seamlessly into southbound SLEX.
