EDSA signage improvement ideas between Pasay and Guadalupe

The section of EDSA between Aurora Boulevard (Tramo Street) in Pasay and J.P. Rizal Avenue in Guadalupe, Makati is unique in that it functions very similarly to a "Jersey freeway", essentially a limited access expressway with some driveways/street access but otherwise with no stoplights and multiple exits.  (The emblematic example of this style of road design is Route 17 in New Jersey)  In particular, from the Tramo flyover east to Guadalupe, EDSA spends about 6-7 km in this form, and thus would be a viable spot for better exit signage.

Along this stretch, Magallanes Interchange signage has not been updated in years, even with the emergence of Skyway in the late 1990s.  With the completion of Stage 3, more useful navigation aids from EDSA are critical in letting drivers know they do not have to use it to get to Quezon City and to NLEX, as well as simplifying the text destinations between Magallanes and the Pasig River.

EDSA currently has no exit numbers, but all measurements are based on the western terminus at Mall of Asia in Pasay.

EDIT, 4/6/21: Changed all directions from east/west to north/south, per suggestion from Skyscrapercity user golliath103.

This is the one and only path to NAIAX from the Mall of Asia area, as Roxas does not have a southbound ramp into that expressway.  As the Tramo turnoff is still the quickest way to Terminal 3 (and Newport City), signage is designed to reflect that here.

1 kilometer east of Mall of Asia
between Roxas Boulevard and FB Harrison Street

Although EDSA is not yet an expressway here, it is only 1 kilometer off from the Tramo split so signage to prep drivers for that (as a key access point to NAIA) would be useful.

This concept also informs drivers leaving the MoA complex that the SLEX/Skyway corridor is not far ahead (if they are heading to central Manila, to NLEX/Bulacan, or towards Makati or the south suburbs like Alabang)

EDIT, 4/6/21 - per suggestions from Skyscrapercity users kratos1211 and goliath103, replaced "Magallanes Avenue" text with just "Magallanes" for the neighborhood.

The classic "different sign per lane" standard seen throughout metro Manila (and along EDSA) can be found right at the ramp split, with six signs at the pedestrian overpass.

Cutting this down to three signs works a lot better:

- one for through traffic

- one for the bus lane

- finally, one for the actual exit, which is two lanes wide and exit only

Arnaiz Avenue exit gets mentioned here, with Greenbelt as control destination - this to encourage traffic heading to that specific half of Ayala Center to exit early, while those trying to access The Link or Glorietta are best served with the Ayala Avenue exit.

Followup gantry:

And finally improved signage where the ramp to SLEX has a fork, specifically to alert drivers that Skyway access is now available both northbound and southbound:

https://www.google.com/maps/@14.5397767,121.0165662,3a,44.9y,106.33h,92.85t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sgoTR84VH5jKprW0-v6Wqsg!2e0!7i13312!8i6656

Exit 5A, A. Arnaiz Avenue (Pasay Road)/Greenbelt (alternate route to McKinley)

Though the ramp split is all the way at the 4.4km mark, since the westbound set is one ramp for Arnaiz & Ayala at the 5km mark, this works better as Exit 5A.  Eastbound, Arnaiz and Ayala get separate ramps.

Sign for closer to the intersection:

Prepping for the left exit for Ayala.  the Ayala/McKinley designation that is currently in use actually still works well here too (as both can either refer to their respective streets, or to the districts that they go to).

A left exit, this ramp essentially allows drivers heading to either McKinley Road or specifically to Ayala Avenue to bypass the ramp complex at A. Arnaiz Avenue.

Left two lanes go entirely to the Ayala ramp.

First mention of the Kalayaan Avenue exit, the most direction from the Makati CBD to Bonifacio Global City.

Notification for the next two exits, Estrella and Buendia.  While theoretically both roads lead to the Poblacion district, I've given Buendia that control destination so that the main focus of the Estrella turnoff is to head out towards Rockwell.

Exit 7, Estrella Street (to Poblacion, Rockwell)
6.9 kilometers/4.29 miles east of Mall of Asia

https://www.google.com/maps/@14.5600999,121.0408369,3a,75y,268.54h,100.68t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sxzXtxvwL8e-fKohj5_KobQ!2e0!7i13312!8i6656

Had to think of this for a bit - should drivers heading from Guadalupe (or southern Mandaluyong for that matter) take EDSA to the Magallanes Interchange to reach the Skyway?   Or should they go up Buendia even if that requires dealing with a few stoplights?  In the end my idea is trying to get people to avoid the onramp traffic from Ayala as well as the A. Arnaiz light on Osmena, so Buendia is given a TO SKYWAY sign here.

EDSA control destinations now that we are firmly in Makati are Pasay and NAIA.

Unlike the northbound flyover, no mention of Mandaluyong for the Estrella turnoff here as drivers likely are already coming from that city to begin with.

Exit 6, Buendia (Gil Puyat Avenue) (to Poblacion, Ayala North, Skyway, Philippine International Convention Center, Malate)
6.3 kilometers/3.91 miles east of Mall of Asia

https://www.google.com/maps/@14.5579985,121.0382301,3a,75y,192.11h,99.89t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1s92eVPLR04p8BwE0bro8QNQ!2e0!7i13312!8i6656

Two right lanes both lead into the collector/distributor lane set for Buendia westbound.

Unlike eastbound EDSA, Arnaiz and Ayala share one westbound ramp, so both are listed for the upcoming exit.

Setup here involves some similarity to the traditional Manila-area "one sign per lane" approach, yet is fundamentally different as the left two signs point to upcoming exits, in American style, rather than a vague usage of control destinations.

First mention of the Pasong Tamo (Chino Roces Avenue) exit, with Magallanes as a control destination.

4.9 kilometers/3.04 miles east of Mall of Asia - A. Arnaiz overpass

The Magallanes Interchange itself, rightmost two lanes exit to Pasong Tamo and the center two lanes lead to the ramp to Osmena Highway north and the flyover to SLEX south (towards the western part of the Magallanes district).  First mention of the Tramo Flyover, a left exit that takes drivers towards NAIA.

The existing ramp split sign could be enhanced a bit too.

The final flyover exit from EDSA, and the main link to NAIA.  Part of the reason I've excluded NAIAX from the Magallanes ramp signage and info: 1. the truck ban on Skyway and 2. this still is a bit more direct of a route to much of the airport from EDSA, compared to getting on the Skyway then onto the airport expressway.

Roxas Boulevard diamond interchange

Current signage here is extremely tiny, despite the fact this is a junction of two of Metro Manila's most important roads:
https://www.google.com/maps/@14.537436,120.9936348,3a,38.3y,271.49h,88.96t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sCbXxVY6AY5YgUMhf44PCug!2e0!7i13312!8i6656

My concept here involves much more prominent labeling, as opposed to small ground-mounted signage:
